HML Students grow a garden and their social skills, too

With an $800 grant from The Education Fund in Miami Lakes, students at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School this school year learned about gardening and nutrition. The kids planted seeds and grew herbs and vegetables. They also attended a Zoom class with Chef Paula Kendrick, of the Florida Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Services, to learn how to prepare and eat what they grew. Another project was a rock garden with the messages “Love,” “Hope” and “Never Give Up,” teacher Vanessa Radice says. Students from all backgrounds at the school are developing social and emotional skills and learning to work together, Radice says.
