Hialeah Miami Lakes High students Maria Parents and Ashley Fernandez finished in second place at the 2018 Fairchild Shade Our Schools Challenge. The girls competed among other students in interdisciplinary, environmental science competition which is designed to engage students of diverse interest, abilities, talents and backgrounds to explore the natural world. The program has been recognized as a benchmark for exceptional STEM education and for empowering Pre-K to 12th grade students to become the next generation of scientists, researchers, educated voters, policy makers and environmentally-minded citizens.
