HML students win seven awards in Fairchild Challenge

On Monday, May 20, Hialeah Miami Lakes High School walked away with seven awards at the Fairchild Challenge Award Ceremony including the Bronze Fairchild Challenge Award along with a small grant to support and enhance environmental activities at the school such as the native butterfly garden. 

The Trojan students competed in eight out of the 10 challenges this year and were called to the stage to receive seven awards. 

The HML Bronze Award winners included

Special Merit – Greter Gonzalez, Sarah Marquez, Zayda Pinero, Karina Ortiz, Jenny Olguin, Mateo Cuecha, Cristian Prieto and Nicklaus Matos for “Memorable Layout and Format” for the Gardens and Green Space.

Second Place – Neil Lee for the “Urban Sustainability Projects: Inventions.” 

Special Merit – Zayda Pinero, Mateo Cuecha and Jenny Olguin for “Viable Green Roof Design” for the Model: Planning Urban Gardens.

Special Merit – Adriana Aguilar for “Integration of Fantasy” for the Baynaza Designs.

Special Merit – Karina Bullit, Jake Camacho, Isabella Perez and Dennis Perez for “Low-Impact Recipe with Traditional Roots” for the Green Cuisine: Low-Impact Appetizer.
