As proposed by the School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman, the Miami-Dade School Board unanimously voted to have the District inform the community about the three-day tax-free weekend that was authorized by the Florida Legislature for basic school supplies, clothing and certain electronic equipment in anticipation of the new school year.

“The upcoming sales tax holiday is a great opportunity for families to be able to save personal funds for the new school year. The District should inform as many people as possible so the community may benefit,” said Hantman.

The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 1, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 3. The Legislature has extended sales tax exemption to a number of technological learning tools that students will find useful in today's digital learning environment. Some of the exempted items include personal computers, e-readers, tablets, software and accessories.
