The Miami-Dade School Board unanimously approved two items proposed by School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman endorsing October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout the District, and proclaiming October 16-22, 2016 as National Teen Driver Safety Week.
“October is dedicated to highlighting the importance of early detection of breast cancer – the second leading cause of cancer death in women, other than skin cancer,” said Hantman.
“Additionally, the school district participates in National Teen Driver Safety Week to help bring awareness and reduce distracted driving, as well as to encourage high school teenagers to change risky driving behaviors in hopes of saving lives across the country.”
