Mater Academy senior Dayme Delgado is spending her summer at Princeton University in New Jersey, as part of a nationwide program that recruits high school students from low income backgrounds and helps them improve their academics to prepare for college.
Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) is the preeminent national nonprofit organization based in New York City that’s dedicated to diversifying the national leadership pipeline by helping high-achieving students from low-income families gain college entrance to the nation’s most selective colleges.
Delgado was among the 100 qualified high school seniors of LEDA Scholars nationwide who demonstrated leadership potential but lack the exposure and support they would need to apply to any Ivy League School or prestigious universities and colleges.
During the four-week program, Delgado will receive leadership training, writing instruction, standardized test preparation and a year of highly personalized guidance as they navigate the application and admissions process at the most competitive colleges.
Once she enters college, Delgado, along with other scholars, are offered ongoing advising, career counseling, postgraduate planning and community-building support to help them succeed and lead.
