Mater Academy High’s marching band, the Mighty Lions, earned a Straight Superior during the 2018 Florida School Music Association’s (FSMA) Florida Bandmasters Association for District 16 and for their marching band music performance assessment.
The event, which took place in Tallahassee, allows marching bands throughout the state to demonstration their musical talents and help students provide leadership, advocacy and services for school music programs in support of quality music education experiences.
FSMA is a not-for-profit association of members that coordinates and oversees recognized interscholastic music activities in the state of Florida. The association recognizes the Florida Bandmasters Association, the Florida Orchestra Association, and the Florida Vocal Association to sponsor district and state Music Performance Assessments for bands, orchestras, and choruses in Florida high schools, junior high schools, and middle schools.
In addition, the Marching Lions finished in second place at the first annual Cypress Bay Thunder Invitational for Class 2A.
