On December 15, the Mater Academy FBLA Chapter organized the first FBLA Read-a-Thon. The event was attended by over 150 elementary school students from both Mater Elementary and Mater Gardens.

The project centered on eight stations where chapter members read children books such as Cinderella and The Lion King. Chapter members also dressed up as the characters in the stories and acted out the scenes as they were read. There was a station for the children to decorate pillow cases and one to make book marks.

Soon after the stories were read, the children were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of Billy the Marlin, the Miami Marlin’s mascot. The students had an opportunity to take pictures and meet the mascot. The feedback from the elementary students was overwhelmingly positive, describing it as one of the best field trips they ever had.
