Mater Academy junior Lauren Batista recently was accepted to the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine summer program where she will be studying medical and science courses such as anatomy, cellular molecular biology, and anthropology.
Batista is the first Mater Academy student to get accepted into the prestigious program, which is a seven week, summer enrichment program for high school students who will be entering the 12th grade, wishing to pursue careers in the health and medicine.
The program also includes interrelated laboratory experiences, socio-cultural anthropology, computer informatics and language arts activities which include exercises in problem solving and comprehensive, essay writing, reading, research methods and decision making.
