The Florida Association of Student Councils (FASC) District 6 held its annual Rally Convention on January 20 at Mater Academy. The FASC consists of over 200 middle and high schools from throughout Florida who work together to bring about a growth in student leadership development, participating in student activities and student engagement in civic affairs.
The District 6 convention included workshops, guest speakers, campaigning for district officer positions, and voting for the 2018-2019 school year.
Mater Lakes Academy’s Adriana Sela, a junior, was elected as the District 6 secretary for the upcoming school year. In order to be eligible to run as an officer, students had to not only give speeches to the more than 300 FASC members in attendance, but they had to also perform a skit as a team.
“This school year is the first year that Mater Lakes Academy’s Student Government Association has been a member of the FASC, and we cannot be more proud and honored to have this position,” said activities director Melissa Stonestreet.
Sela, and the rest of the Mater Lakes SGA begin their duties after the State Convention in Orlando later in this school year.
