Mater Lakes Academy Key Club members, sponsored by the Greater Miami Lakes Kiwanis, recently received two prestigious awards for their fundraising activities for Unique Family Autism and Epilepsy.
This is the second year in a row that the Key Club has received the award for the most money raised by a school for the Epilepsy Foundation. In addition to participating in the walkathon, the Key Club members arrived at 6 a.m. to help the organization set up their walk-a-thon. The Key Club also received an award for their fundraising at the Unique Family Autism walk-a-thon where they raised $800 dollars for this cause.
Key Club was established by Kiwanis International in 1925 and is the largest high school community service organization in the world having over 260,000 members who collectively provide over 12 million service hours each year to the communities they are in. Their motto is "Caring our way of life".
The Mater Lakes Academy Key Club has over 200 members and they operate under the direction on their faculty advisor Zee Aleman.
Tom Freiwald, the Kiwanis Advisor to the Mater Lakes Academy Key Club said “The members and officers of Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes are extremely proud of the work they do in the community.”
