Mater Lakes Academy had 23 students that competed at the Future Business Leaders of America’s State Leadership Conference. The FBLA SLC was held March 23-26 at the Hilton Orlando.
“The students spent several weeks preparing for their state competition once they qualified after the district competition,” said Giovanni Lorenzo, FBLA sponsor. “It is gratifying to see their hard work pay off as they compete.”
This is the first time that Mater Lakes Academy has had five students qualify during the State Leadership Conference to attend the National Competition. Christian “CJ” Acevedo came in second place in the category of Sales Presentation. Melissa Machado came in third place in the category of Organizational Leadership. Anny Licor came in fourth place in Electronic Career Portfolio. Kevin Vega and Isabella Santiago came in fifth place in Sports and Entertainment Management.
“I honestly couldn’t believe that I came this far…to hear my name being called on stage left me in awe,” said Acevedo. “I’m really excited to see my competition nationally. If they thought my presentation in Orlando was good, wait until Anaheim. I’m bringing my A game.”
FBLA members will compete at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California from June 29-July 2. This four-day conference is the highest level of competition for FBLA members. FBLA will have created partnerships with industry leaders to design and judge their competitive events. Students achieving national ranking can earn scholarships through FBLA and their partners.
“Our Bears keep on excelling in all they do. We are excited to see how they place nationally,” said Rene Roviosa, principal at Mater Lakes Academy. “I’ve always known we had excellent students, I’m glad they are being recognized nationally for their accomplishments now”.
