In a special meeting, the Miami-Dade County School Board unanimously approved Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho’s reorganization plan, which will result in $4 million in savings for the District. The plan enhances the school district’s Strategic Blueprint by streamlining operations, maximizing efficiencies, and eliminating redundancies while protecting and expanding school site programs, including local schools in the Miami Lakes area.

“Today's reorganization expands our continuum of efficiency and innovation, and supports our mission to ensure that students and classrooms across the District remain our top priorities,” said  Carvalho. “As a result of this reorganization, the school district will realize a net savings of $4 million – which can be redirected to the classroom, thus strengthening our already robust educational programming.”

The restructuring and realignment will improve District operations, placing greater attention on areas such as early childhood and special education with the creation of the Family Liaison Officer; cyber-security enhancements under information technology services; and the modernization of food and nutrition services.

Communications will play a pivotal role in increasing awareness of opportunities for Minority and Women-owned Business and Small Business enterprises. Additionally, School Police will revise its strategies for collecting and consolidating information, including data from social media.
