The Miami-Dade School Board approved four General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at its regular monthly meeting in September with a total project investment valued at $33.3 million.
Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and provide technology upgrades. The projects awarded for design, pre-construction and construction included local high school Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High.
The scope of work includes: portable demolition and site restoration; new bus drop-off including related walks and covered walkways; resurfacing and re-striping of basketball courts; selective replacement of exterior doors, flooring, ceiling tiles and grid; selective HVAC system replacement; group restrooms renovation; electrical upgrades; gymnasium bleacher restoration and selective exterior painting.
Total project allocation cost for HML is at $6.36 million with an estimated completion date of March 2019. The total sub-contractor Small Business Enterprise participation was 43.3 percent.
The District-established Small/Micro Business Enterprise utilization goals were met or exceeded by the contractors, with highly diverse sub-consultant teams. This was further strengthened by a strong commitment to Local Workforce Utilization.
