Miami Dade College has state’s best newspaper

For the seventh consecutive year, the Florida College System Publications Association (FSCPA) has named Miami Dade College’s student newspaper, The Reporter, the top college newspapers in the state.

The publication was recognized for winning six first place awards and winning 12 among 18 individual categories during a recent FCSPA awards banquet in Orlando

The Reporter has amassed 100  awards from the FSCPA in the last seven years including 58 first-place honors.

In addition to placing first in overall excellence, individuals won first place honors for In-Depth Reporting by Maria Vizcanino and Riane Roldan; News Story by Diane Roldan; Humor Column by Katherine Wallace-Fernandez; Picture Story by Omar Negrin and Sebastian Ballestas; Editorial Cartoon by Enio Acosta Jr., and Design by the Reporter’s staff.

“I am so grateful for having such a supportive and hardworking staff,” said Maria Vizcaino, The Reporter’s editor-in-chief. “We were blessed to have been part of the paper. The real accomplishments are the experiences we had and the friends we made.”

The Reporter features 16 pages, prints on a biweekly schedule, has a circulation of 10,250 per print cycle and is supplemented by a website with video and audio content. It is distributed at all eight MDC campuses and has newsrooms at the Kendall, North and Wolfson campuses.
