First time college students have an opportunity to obtain an associate degree for free through the new Future Ready Miami-Dade Scholarship program.
The scholarship is funded by Miami-Dade County for residents to obtain a two-year degree in the arts or sciences at Miami Dade College.
To be eligible, students must be county residents.
Those who were dually enrolled in college during high school may also apply.
Applicants must also have a GPA of at least 2.0, and have earned a high school diploma, GED or a home school high school diploma within the county.
Florida Virtual School students who are county residents are also eligible to sign up.
The college will offer many support services, including help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students do not need to be awarded the FASFA to qualify for free tuition.
The scholarship will pay for tuition after all other grants and financial aid obtained by a student is applied to their bill.
Successful candidates will be encouraged to attend school full-time and earn 60 credit hours at Miami Dade College.
The scholarship does not cover books, rent, food or other expenses. The college will not issue a refund for unused funds.
