Miami Dade College salutes front line heroes

During a special Heroes Edition of the Miami Dade College Alumni Hall of Fame, the school recognized 10 alumni who served on the front lines during the coronavirus pandemic. The annual event generated more than $1.2 million to support scholarships for current and future students, the school said. The honorees shown above in the top row are, left to right: Brandon Webb, battalion chief, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, special operations division; Brian Rafky, chief, south operations division, Miami-Dade Police Dept.; MDC President Madeline Pumariega; Caridad Cuellar, R.N., Baptist Medical Center and Pete Gomez, senior director, Florida International University Academy of International Disaster Preparedness.

Front row: Teresa Ellen Murphy, teacher, Spanish Lake Elementary School, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Teacher of the Year; Sheila Jones-Coakley, Nurse Manager, dialysis unit, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital; Cesar F.
