Students in Miami-Dade County will resume classroom learning the week of Oct. 5, with children in different grades returning on different days.

“It’s not Monday everybody, it’s starting Monday, a staggered approach,” said Dr. Steve Gallon III, vice chair of the school board.

Parents who chose the schoolhouse model in July for where they want their children to be educated during the fall as the coronavirus pandemic continues will be able to send their kids back to school on the following schedule:

Monday, Oct. 5: Pre-K, kindergarten, elementary grades and Exceptional Student Education classes.

Wednesday, Oct. 7: Grades 2 – 6 return to campus, as well as high school freshmen and sophomores.

Friday, Oct. 9: All remaining grades will be allowed back at schools. High school classes, both on campus and on My School Online, for students who will continue the academic year with distance learning, will begin at 7:20 a.m.

District Chair Perla Tabares Hantman called the decision to return back to school "one of the most difficult the school board had to make. We are committed to providing students a high quality education while ensuring their safety and respecting parental choice as we transition back to schoolhouses during these unprecedented times.”
