Miami Lakes K-8 Center (MLK) students have been busy singing, dancing, acting and playing instruments in celebration of the December holidays. On December 10, PreK, K and 1st grade students along with the schools Elementary Chorus performed “A Holiday Celebration” at Barbara Goleman Senior High.
The performance began with a 20 minute mini-musical of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” where the chorus, directed by Sara Cino, sang story-telling lyrics complete with soldiers, mice and dancing characters. Following the chorus were the adorable primary students singing songs such as “Mi Burrito Sabanero,” “O Kwanzaa,” “Hanukah, Hanukkah” and other holiday songs in both English and Spanish directed by the classroom teachers.
On December 17, MLK dancers, musicians, cheerleaders, Salsa Squad, French, Zumba, and drama classes performed A Holly Jolly Holiday Spectacular at Barbara Goleman. The premise of the show was while at a holiday dinner party, the guests (drama class) were telling of their favorite holiday traditions.
The performance began with the orchestra playing “Silent Night” and “Deck the Halls,” and drama decorating for a party. French class sang “Joyeux Noel” followed by Salsa dancing to “Feliz Navidad.” The dance team performed an amazing upbeat rendition of “The Nutcracker” followed by a holiday parade with band and cheerleaders. Last, the Zumba team worked off their feast to “La Fiesta del Pilito.” The show ended with a grand finale “Feliz Navidad” sang by all performers.
Both holiday shows were an amazing display of the diverse activities and extremely talented actors, dancers, musicians and teachers at MLK.
