The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.  Most events require preregistration.

Homework Help & Tutoring  Sat, Dec. 16  10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

LEGO @ Your Library Sat., Dec. 16  3 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Building blocks provided.  Ages 5+.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers en dos idiomas  Tues., Dec.19, Tues., Jan 9 11 a.m. – Noon

Join library staff for stories, songs and activities in English and Spanish for toddlers and their caregivers. Ages 18 mos.- 3.

Stories with Mrs. Claus Tues., Dec. 19  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Join Mrs. Claus for stories and Christmas magic.  All ages.

Gingerbread Decorating Workshop  Wed., Dec. 20 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Assemble and decorate your own gingerbread house. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Educational Advisory Board.

Ages 12 – 18.

Dominoes and Cafecito  Thurs., Dec. 21 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Enjoy a game of dominoes and a shot of Cuban coffee. Ages 55+.

Adult Learning Academy Basic English for Beginners Mon., Jan. 8   6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. 

This 10-week course is designed for adults who do not speak any English. The semester is Jan. 8 – March 18. Certified teachers will provide English language instruction, in person, at the library. Registration is required and will be for all 10 weeks. Space is limited. Ages 18+.

Chess Club Tues., Jan. 9  6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Play with other fans of the game. Ages 8 – 18.

Get Your Game On!  Wed., Jan. 10  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Join the Teen Library Advisory Board and play Connect 4; Jenga; UNO; Cards Against Humanity (family edition); Exploding Kittens and Really Loud Librarians.

Ages 12 – 18.

STEM Saturdays  Sat., Jan 13  3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Do a hands-on STEM activity with FIU undergrad and medical students. Materials provided. Made possible by the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP. 

Ages 5 – 15.

Acrylic Painting for Teens: Winter scene  Wed., Jan. 17  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Make a painting with acrylics with instructor David Sexton. Materials provided. Registration required. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board. 

Ages 12 – 18.
