At the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus on December 1, the first annual Hanukkah Study Break was held with help by a committee led by Tamar Sharony, Shana Kantor, and Miami Lakes resident Sharon Zajac.

The committee created the perfect environment for students who needed a break from all the preparation for finals week. The special occasion featured typical Jewish foods such as a latka "bar," sufganiyot, a "Create Your Own Smoothie" station, and brain food such as graham crackers and fruit.

“We welcomed everyone to this event which is meant to celebrate the season and relax from all the stress finals week brings,” said Zajac, a planner of the event, a member of Hillel, a Jewish student organization, at FIU. “The Hanukkah Study Break was such a huge success! There was music and mingling and the atmosphere was so wonderful.”

Hillel at FIU will be opening their office towards the end of Spring Term next year in Parking Garage 6, where the event was held.

“We look forward to hosting this event again next year and even bringing out a free masseuse to provide massages for all students,” said Zajac. “Hillel has big plans for its future, and we hope everyone can be a part of it and watch it grow.”
