Miami Lakes Educational Center Cambridge Engineering Students have made their mark at another National Competition. Six students recently attended the Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference and Competition which took place on June 28 through July 2 in Orlando.
The TSA team included 2013 graduates Javon Brown, Stefan Pirone, Alexander Kao, Samuel Hassel and upcoming seniors Eric Quesada and Pamela Parada.
More than 5,500 people were in attendance at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort.
Both middle and high school students, from several states and also students from Germany and Turkey, participated in more than 60 competitive events based on principles and concepts learned through projects during the school year in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects.
The Miami Lakes Educational Center students brought home two national level second place trophies. Competing in the CAD Engineering Design event, Eric Quesada, an aspiring engineer, placed second in this highly competitive event. Not to be outdone, the Digital Video Production team, represented by Hassel and Kao, also brought home the second place trophy at the national level.
The National Technology Student Association recognized the Miami Lakes Educational Center's TSA program as the outstanding chapter in the state of Florida for 2013. The organization also recognized the Cambridge Engineering Instructor and TSA advisor, Paul Kynerd. Kynerd was the recipient of the 2012-2013 High School Chapter Advisor of the Year award for the state of Florida.
