The Miami Lakes K-8 Center’s Knight Owls competed in their first chess tournament of the school year open to students from public and private schools in Miami-Dade County, put on by the 64 Squares Foundation at the Divine Savior Academy in Doral on Oct. 16. The K-5 division, with Aidan Alvarez, Zoe Trinidad and Christopher Capute, won seven games, putting them in second place, the school said. Aidan Schwinghammer and Winson Cheung also competed and reached fifth place in their division. Shown above from left are Aidan Alvarez, Zoe Trinidad and Christopher Capute.
