The Monsignor Edward Pace High boys’ and girls’ basketball teams participated in a variety of summer activities, including a camp in South Carolina and at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

The Spartans also participated in the Barry University team three-day camp in June and hosted two weeks of camp at its campus.

More than 40 campers each week from all over Miami-Dade and Broward counties, including student athletes from Immaculate Conception School, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School, Mother of Our Redeemer Catholic School, St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, St. James Catholic School, as well as several local public middle schools.

The players also served as camp counselors, which is required for their community service graduation.

In late June, players from both teams participated in the University of South Carolina team camp in Columbia and made a stop at the University of North Florida to meet the coaching staff, including Pace graduate Ian Gibson.

The teams each played 10 games in three days against various teams from Florida and the Carolinas.

The summer trips were capped by meeting Miami native head coach, Frank Martin, as well as seeing the USC facilities and playing in the school’s main arena, the Colonial Life Arena, where USC plays their games.
