Flapper dresses and silky suits transported audiences to a captivating era of American history as Pace Drama presented the Fall production of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.
The show, made up of 48 students on and off the stage, ran from November 14-16 and was the first production directed by Pace's new Director of Fine Arts and Theatre teacher, Marianne Martinez.
As a class of 2012 Pace alumnus, Martinez reflected on the show as a an experience she will cherish for the rest of her life. “Not only was I able to watch one of my favorite pieces of classic literature come to life on stage, I was able to work with some of the most talented students - kids who like just me, found a home in Pace Drama.”
Pace students took inspiration from the classic novel and brought the the roaring 20’s back through talented acting and dancing. In addition, the students showcased their strength in technical theatre with beautifully crafted costumes and set designs.
Pace's Theatre program has become a vital part of the schools culture and Martinez reflected that “witnessing the success of this show within our school and our community fills me with joy, pride and satisfaction.”
The group will present its annual musical production in the spring. The show’s title will be announced at a later date.
