Pace High School sophomores David Barbier and Kimberly Casios attended the 2017 Hugh O’ Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar at Lynn University May 18-May 21. The HOBY Leadership Seminars develop the leadership skills of high school sophomores so they can lead in their schools, careers, and communities.

The two were chosen for their stellar academics and involvement in the Pace community. As part of the seminar, Barbier and Casios listened to keynote speakers who talked about serving the community and bettering oneself.

They participated in team-building ice breakers designed to strengthen the bonds between group members. They also held group discussions with the other students in attendance from across South Florida. In addition, students played in the HOBY Olympics, which featured competitive games such as Office Tennis which used binders and tennis balls, and put on skits to represent what they learned at the seminar.

Barbier says that the biggest lesson he learned was that “Everybody comes in all different shapes, sizes, and beliefs. You just have to accept them for who they are.”
