Pace High’s Anglers Club rewards students with Deep Sea Fishing Trip

Pace High School seniors Reinaldo Dorta and Albert Carbonell, along with junior Brandon Garcia, went deep sea fishing with the Pace Anglers Club on May 14.

The three students were rewarded with the trip for their academic achievements and accompanied by Captain Bouncer Smith, who has been a sponsor and supporter of the Anglers Club since 2004. Smith has taken three students fishing every semester as an incentive to keep them working hard in school.

“We had great weather and a lot of fun,” said Scott Giberson, a Pace science teacher and the moderator for the Pace Anglers Club who also accompanied the students on the trip. Smith took the time to teach the students about the fish and the techniques used to catch them. In total, the group caught two sailfish, three mutton snapper, and three bonita.

The Pace Anglers Club will hold its eighth annual Spartan Fishing Tournament on August 19 at La Siesta Resort & Marina in Islamorada, FL. For more information, visit www.paceanglersclub.com.
