In March, Monsignor Edward Pace High School’s (Pace) Law Studies and Criminal Justice Operations classes were visited by members of the City of Miami Police Department’s Bomb Squad and Homeland Security Unit.
Officer Robert Rodriguez, a 27 year veteran with the department, spoke candidly to the students in Pace’s Innovation Center about how he, as a Police Officer, decided to get involved with the bomb squad. He also spoke to the students about the extensive training required to become a member of this specialized unit.
Once the presentation was complete, Rodriguez headed out to show students the bomb squad truck and to introduce the class to Officers Jason Clifford and Ralph Muina. The two specialized officers are currently preparing to train with the FBI in the near future to become bomb technicians.
They helped demonstrate the unit’s specialized robotics equipment and the suit worn when they are called to a scene where there is the danger of a possible explosive device.
The Law Studies and Criminal Justice Operations classes are just two of the classes Pace offers as part of the school’s Law Academy and serves as a launch pad for those students who are interested in pursuing careers in legal studies or law enforcement.
