Pace High School sent 26 students and three teachers on a field trip to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral in early February. The students, along with Pace teachers Dr. George Rodriguez, Oscar Manriquez, and Andres Cabrera, arrived at the center early in the morning after a four-hour bus ride from Pace.

Once there, they marveled at the Space Shuttle Atlantis and its dedicated museum, the Apollo museum which featured rockets from the famed Apollo missions, and took a tour of the launch pads that sent mankind to the moon. They also rode a simulator meant to emulate what it feels like to be inside of a shuttle launch.

Pace’s Space Club is one of the school’s newest clubs but it has already become one of its most talked-about. Students learn about astronomy, discuss space news, and even look into careers related to space travel and its related sciences.

“The Space Club is dedicated to sharing our love for space exploration, space sciences, and learning about the contributions of the space program to our daily lives,” said Rodriguez, Pace theology teacher and moderator for the club.
