Two brothers who attend Monsignor Edward Pace High School participated in the Senate Page Program for a week during the legislative session that just ended in
Tallahassee.
Christopher Sykes, a senior, and Corey Sykes, a sophomore, were part of the program in January and met with Sen. Jose Javier Rodriguez, D-Miami, who recommended them to be pages. The brothers also met Sen. Lauren Book, D-Plantation; Sen. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton as well as Sen. Bobby Powell, D-West Palm Beach and Sen. Gayle Harrell, R-Stuart.
The Sykes brothers created their own bills and presented them on the senate floor.
“It has inspired me to work hard for what I want to achieve in the future,” Christopher Sykes said.
To get accepted into the program, the siblings applied online and then needed to submit recommendations from teachers and deans at their school and also Sen. Rodriguez.
