Pace's Mendive

Education Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Monsignor Edward Pace High junior Onelia Mendive recently graduated from the FBI Summer Youth Academy at Miami-Dade College.
Mendive has dreamed of becoming an FBI agent since she was 8-years-old, and the program offered her a view of the inner workings of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
During her week-long experience, Mendive engaged with FBI agents, law enforcement officers, forensic experts, and university professors, for the purpose of fostering academic excellence, leadership skills, team building and career exploration.
The FBI Youth Academy consists of an intriguing mix of classroom, laboratory, outdoor and field trip activities for 5 days, the culmination of which is an awards ceremony and banquet. Miami Dade College North Campus’ 15 classroom-buildings and its 245-acre environment present the ideal setting for formal instruction and scenario-based training. Mendive and her fellow students became fully immersed in hands-on modules that include mock crime scene investigation, SWAT led hostage recovery, and many other Public Safety themed activities that demonstrate how real-world challenges are solved using expert investigation techniques.
