Palm Springs North Elementary pre-school teacher Dr. Rosanna Chiarella is doing science and math far beyond pre-kindergarten levels, and people are noticing. Chiarella earned various awards in recent months for her work, particularly in her interests in space.
She was selected as the National Aerospace Connection in Education (ACE) Program Teacher of the Year by Civil Air Patrol (CAP). She was one of over 500 educators across the country who showed exemplary participation in CAP’s ACE program in her school.
“Every year I include ACE curriculum not only in my Pre-Kindergarten classroom but also in my Space STEM club for our second, third, fourth and fifth grade students,” said Chiarella.
She was also honored with the Henry Ford Innovation Award, where she was one of the 20 teachers recognized across the nation for her investigative science work with her students. She was also mentioned in the prestigious space education program, the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) for the tomato seeds she and her students worked on growing for use in space for the Canadian Space Agency.
Due to her recognition and talents Chiarella will be announced in November as a 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award nominee for her alma mater, Nova Southeastern University School of Abraham S. Fischler College of Education.
