The Miami-Dade County Public Library System announced in 2023 that its Miami Lakes branch would undergo extensive renovations. Work is set to begin in March, when the branch, at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and Northwest 67th Avenue, will close until the fall of 2027.
Vercetti Enterprises in Doral won the bid for the approximately $8 million project that will include new wiring and plumbing, an energy-efficient roof and new finishes.
The building is 11,334 square feet and will have 5,000 square feet added. At left are renderings from the county of what the new learning center in Miami Lakes will look like.
There will be reading nooks with natural light near windows; a children’s room with low bookcases; new furniture with USB charging ports; a new multipurpose community room, a renovated auditorium and study and meeting spaces.
A tech space will have 3D printers, microphones for podcasting, recording devices and other gear for public use.
Outside there will be new landscaping, electric vehicle charging stations and 13 more parking spaces.
During construction, patrons will be encouraged to visit the branch in Palm Springs North, at 17601 NW 78th Ave.
That branch presents some of the same programming that was offered in Miami Lakes such as Homework Help and Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Babies.
It also hosts events not offered in town such as a book club for adults.
