Alexa Darnaby, 17, a senior at the School for Advanced Studies’ north campus in Miami, has already published two books in her young writing career.
Her latest work, “Hamlet: A Children’s Book” was inspired by her love of literature.
Alexa says she has always enjoyed reading and writing, and that playwright William Shakespeare fascinated her as a child.
Darnaby’s latest book was independently published on Aug. 4, according to its listing on Amazon.com.
Lilly Melo and Ariel Torres are the illustrators.
“The book maintains the structure of the original [play] and maintains the poetic structure and rhyme scheme that Shakespeare adored,” Darnaby said.
She said the story of Hamlet, about a prince who seeks to avenge his father’s murder, is reimagined for children.
Her first book for an adult audience, “A Ghost in the Music,” is a novel about love and loss, and describes a young violin prodigy who descends into madness after the death of her music instructor, Darnaby said.
