The Miami-Dade School Board approved three items proposed by Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman at the February 3 regular monthly meeting including resolutions proclaiming March 2016 as Florida Bike Month, April 22, 2016 as Earth Day and recognizing the winners of the 2015 WalkSafe Statewide Poster Contest.
“March is Florida Bike Month, which promotes healthy lifestyle choices, and encourages physical fitness and helps reduce the chances of chronic illnesses and obesity,” said Hantman. “It is important that we also recognize and create public awareness of the seriousness of improving pedestrian safety by teaching students safe walking skills. In addition, I am proud to be able to bring forward initiatives to help raise students’ consciousness and prepare them for life beyond the classroom as citizens of the world.”
