The Miami-Dade County Public School Board unanimously approved two items proposed by Board Member Perla Tabares Hantman at a monthly meeting in April, including commemorating Cuban Independence Day and a national initiative honoring teachers.
“Our school district joins thousands of Cuban-Americans in our community and throughout the world in celebrating May 20 as Cuban Independence Day, an important date in that country’s history when it gained its independence from Spain,” said Hantman. “It is also important that we recognize the significant and valuable role that teachers play in education and in the daily lives of our students.”
