Boy Scout Troop 566 and Sea Scout Ship 144 retired more than 60 American flags and a state of Florida flag in a ceremony held Oct. 12 in front of Miami Lakes Town Hall, at 6601 Main St. Earlier this year, Troop 566 created a drop box in the government center for residents to deposit old, torn or discolored flags. The banners were burned as part of a respectful ritual, when the scouts also saluted the flags.  Shown above are, from left: Aidan Schwinghammer, Daniel Fiallo, Sean Schwinghammer, Jonathan Goez, Luke Mazzorana, Christian Kunkle, Alex Lorie. Holding the flag are Daniel Espejo and Rowan Welch.  Boys and girls ages 13 - 20 may join Sea Scouts and boys ages 11 - 17 can join Boy Scouts.
