Spanish Lakes Elementary (SLE) holds a Teacher of the Year and Rookie Teacher of the Year parade and show during the last week of school to honor the two extraordinary individuals.
Classes and individual students create a song, dance or poem to be presented in honor of these two events. In addition, the chorus, band, Ruby dancers and cheerleaders perform. This year, there will also be a special tribute to Spanish Lake Elementary's 10 year anniversary.
On June 1 at Royal Palace Ballroom in northwest Miami Dade, SLE's End-Of-The-Year Extravaganza will honor three retirees. Retiring from SLE this year after years of dedication to the teaching profession will be fourth grade teacher Zulema Almanza, speech teacher Karen Mohardt and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Adriana Rutledge.
