SLE students reach out to unsung American heroes in Turkey

Spanish Lake Elementary students from Anne Burke-Stephen’s third grade class united together to send items and gifts of love to deployed military personnel in Turkey and their dogs.

Burke-Stephens met a young serviceman’s wife while shopping in Babies-R-Us. In conversation, the woman mentioned her husband was deployed to Turkey. Each serviceman in this unit has a trained dog helping to protect our freedom in the USA and the personnel’s safety in Turkey. Sharing this with her students, the class decided to express their thanks with letters from home to these brave military personnel and “yummy” touches (approved gifts for dogs) for their four-legged friends across the globe.

Through this service project, the third graders showed their love and respect across the miles to the military personnel and man’s best friend.
