As the holidays approach, Spanish Lake Elementary School (SLE) remembers those less fortunate in the community with baskets filled with fixings for meals, essential items and a gift card for a turkey. Within the school setting, the children perform in song, dance and story-telling followed by classroom Thanksgiving feasts.
On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving after school, the staff gathered together for their annual Thanksgiving feast to give thanks for each other, and for the many blessings they’ve received.
The last week of November, the students and teachers celebrated career dress-up day, and a career day sponsored by the guidance department. Parents and community volunteers came to SLE to discuss their chosen career with the students.
Additionally, the SLE chorus showcased once again at the November 30 Miami Heat game.
December marks the beginning of the annual SLE toy drive. Students and staff are grateful to create a smile on someone’s face.
Reading Under the Stars is an honored SLE tradition committed to literacy, and is celebrated the first Wednesday evening in December. Families and friends come together for reading, learning, stargazing and enrichment. The campus is decorated with beautiful lights, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus make a guest appearance. Special presentations by the chorus, band, cheerleaders, dance team, booths and food trucks are enjoyed by all.
Being a diverse community, SLE loves celebrating all students during the winter holiday show, Let the Good Times Roll. The show features individual student talents, the SLE Ruby dancers, cheer squad, chorus and The Bucket Rhythm Band. The spectacular holiday show is held on December 18, 19 and 20.
