Spanish Lake Elementary students and staff spotlight the meaning of Patriotism

Spanish Lake Elementary’s (SLE) fifth graders embarked on their studies of American history with Patriot’s Day on September 11.

Fifth grade students in Julie Barreto-Tejero’s class wrote on a copy of their hand print about what being a patriot meant to them. This was a message of peace and hope, and the handprints were then displayed in the shape of the American flag.

Through their studies, students learned who they are and what they stand for as they grow into responsible citizens. The study of American history helps students understand themselves and others as they learn from the mistakes of history’s past. SLE students embrace history to improve decision making as they learn important values.
