Students from schools in the Miami Lakes area put the needs of others before themselves in March and April as they gathered new and used shoes for Camillus House. The charity serves poor and homeless people in Miami-Dade County. The shoe drive has been extended until April 22, Miami Lakes Town Clerk Gina Inguanzo said.
After gathering up the footwear, kids have been bringing shoes to Miami Lakes Town Hall, where donation bins are still available to accept shoes.
The project is a partnership between the town and Loving Soles. Participating schools include St. Thomas University; City of Hialeah Educational Academy; Miami Lakes K-8 Center; Barbara Goleman Senior High School; Bob Graham Education Center and Miami Lakes Middle School.
