School grades for all Miami-Dade and Broward county high schools were released on December 18. The Town of Miami Lakes congratulated Miami Lakes Educational Center for achieving an “A” rating once again while Barbara Goleman Senior High’s rating improved to a “B” and Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High made a vast improvement achieving its first “A.”

This is a result of the commitment and hard work put forth by the teachers, administration, parents and of course, the students.

“Supporting our local schools is a top priority,” said Councilmember Nelson Rodriguez. “The town has always been a partner to the schools by helping them with tutoring funds. I’m very proud of all the hard work the teaches and students have done to make these grade changes.”

The town continues to support local schools through its Education Advisory Board. At the final budget hearing for fiscal year 2013-2014, the Town Council approved $22,500 to fund FCAT Tutoring for all six local schools.

Highlighting the economic development aspects of well-rated schools, Councilmember Tony Lama said, “The education of our children is paramount. But what many don’t realize is that our commitment to our schools and these stellar results contribute to our solid property values and keeping Miami Lakes a highly coveted area to raise children and locate a business.”
