Education Thursday, February 4, 2021

Love and unity in the community was the theme of the Orange Bowl’s Creative Art Contest. Creations by two seventh grade students from Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy placed in top spots in the middle school division.

Jasmine Andino, 13, shown at left, created a digital illustration, above at left, that placed first in the contest held in the weeks leading up to the annual Capital One Orange Bowl college football game. The game was held in January at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Sophia Ruiz, 12, in the photo at right, placed third with her mixed media drawing. Her work is shown in the photo above, at right. Both students featured Obie, the Orange Bowl mascot, in their work. They competed against other student artists from Miami-Dade and Broward counties.  Jasmine received a $200 Nike gift card and Sophia won a $50 Nike gift card. The non-profit Orange Bowl Committee is based in Miami Lakes. Its 380 members promote youth sports, fundraising and scholarships.
