Youth Co-Op Preparatory Charter School students Carlos Betancourt, (11th grade) and George Corchado, (12th grade), exhibited their artworks at the 2017 Annual Congressional Art Competition “An Artistic Discovery.”
The event was held at the Mary Collins Community Center located at 15151 N.W. 52nd Avenue in Miami Lakes. Students participating will meet and take pictures with Congressman Mario-Diaz Balart of District 25. Artwork judged at this event, if chosen, will be sent to go on display in the Canon Tunnel in Washington D.C.
Betancourt submitted two black and white linoleum prints “Villa Alleyway” and “Mailboxes.” His artwork is graphic and bold. It explores the everyday life and culture of his hometown in Hialeah.
Corchado submitted a self portrait. His work “Untitled” is a mixed-media oil on paper painting. His work explores urban life and graffiti. He will be graduating this year and will be attending the fine arts program at Broward Community College in the Fall.
The students are led by Miami Lakes resident Stephanie Rodriguez, an art educator and illustrator, who currently teaches High School Drawing and AP Art History classes at the School.
