Next week, Miami Lakes residents flock to the polls to elect a mayor and three council members to represent the town for the next four years.
On November 8, incumbent Mayor Michael Pizzi, 53, faces two challengers, Councilmember Manny Cid, 33, and former mayor Wayne Slaton, 65, the face of Miami Lakes’ incorporation movement.
For Seat One, Councilmember Nelson Rodriguez, a 47-year-old Coral Gables firefighter, is facing attorney Alex Dehghani, 36, and Xiomara Pazos, 59, who owns a non emergency transportation company.
For Seat Three, Councilmember Tony Lama, a 38 year-old software engineer, is facing attorney Elizabeth Delgado, 52.
Three political novices are running for vacant Seat Five, as Esther Colon, a 62-year-old retired government administrator; Luis Collazo, 43-year-old health care administrator and former chair of the Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee; and attorney Nayib Hassan, 38, are seeking the chair Cid gave up to run for mayor.
With the exception of the Seat Three race, If no candidate in the other three races receives at least 51 percent of the votes, the two top vote recipients will be in a run-off two weeks later.
Early voting at the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue, ends Sunday, November 6.
On election day, the following Miami Lakes precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
Pct. 305 – Miami Lakes Branch Library, 6699 Windmill Gate Road
Pct. 306 – Miami Lakes Middle School, 6425 Miami Lakeway North
Pct. 307 – Miami Lakes United Methodist Church, 14800 Ludlam Road
Pct. 308 – Miami Lakes K-8 Center, 14250 N.W. 67 Avenue
Pct. 352 – Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue
Pct. 385 – Barbara Goleman Senior High School, 14100 N.W. 89 Avenue
Pct. 390 – Bob Graham Education Center, 15901 N.W. 79 Avenue
