The Town of Miami Lakes triumphs 79 - 61 over the City of Hialeah in a charity basketball game to benefit the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative. Virtutem Populo founder Maurits Acosta, a sophomore at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High whose civics group organized the event, said $7,417.08 was raised for the Miami Lakes non-profit that helps women get breast cancer screenings and other services.

The Miami Lakes Middle School Band, Barbara Goleman Senior High School Band, Miami Lakes Middle School theater students, and Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High Sapphires dance team all performed at half-time, Acosta said. Comedian Mario Ramil did commentary.
