The seventh grade students of the Civic Engagement Academy at Bob Graham Education Center (BGEC) participated in the Project Citizen State competition on May 28 at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.
The students' project calls for the opening of primary elections to registered independent voters who are currently closed out from this critical process in their republic. The theme of their project is “No Taxation Without Participation.”
BGEC won first place for oral presentation and portfolio. The entire class researched the topic and worked very hard in putting the project together. Eight students represented the class at the competition. The school is very proud of the students as well as their teachers, John Brady and Mercy Mendez.
