The seventh-grade students of the Civic Engagement Academy (CEA) at Bob Graham Education Center (BGEC) participated in the Project Citizen District Competition on April 16 at St. Thomas University School of Law.
The students' project called for the opening of primary elections to registered independent voters who are currently closed out from this critical process in the republic. The theme of their project is "No Taxation Without Participation."
BGEC was one of just three schools to advance to the state competition in Orlando in May. The entire class researched the topic and worked very hard in putting the project together, which included a petition drive on a weekend. Eight students represented the class for the competition. The school is very proud of the students and their teachers John Brady and Mercy Mendez.
