Cedar Court in Miami Lakes was dedicated Jan. 21 to a resident who died from COVID-19.

Miami Beach Police Sgt. Edward Perez succumbed to complications from the disease in August 2021.

Perez, 55, was a resident of the town for 20 years and lived on Cedar Court with his wife Linda and their daughter.

Neighbors attended the ceremony along with family, friends, Miami Lakes Vice Mayor Jeffrey Rodriguez and Councilwoman Marilyn Ruano, who sponsored the project.

Ruano praised Perez for being a public servant, father and husband.

“Sergeant Eddie Perez is a very loved member in this community,” Ruano said.

Miami Beach Police Deputy Chief Paul Acosta also attended the ceremony and thanked the council for naming the street for Perez, who served 25 years with the agency.

“This is a special way that his legacy and his life will always be honored and remembered,” Acosta said.
